Henoch-Schönlein purpura associated with adult human immunodeficiency virus infection: case report and review of the literature.

چکیده
Dear Editor, Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) is an immunoglobulin (Ig) A–mediated small vessel vasculitis that occurs uncommonly among adults and even more rarely in individuals infected with the human immunodefi ciency virus (HIV). There are overlapping clinical features between HIV-associated nephropathy, HSP and secondary IgA nephropathy. However the systemic associations of HSP are uncommon in the other 2 conditions. The management is also very different. We report a case of a Singaporean man with HIV infection, who presented with classical signs and symptoms as well as pathologic fi ndings consistent with adult HSP.

In fifty percent of patients who display a combination of nephritis-nephrotic symptoms, end-stage disease develops. Pharmacologic treatme...

INTRODUCTION Henoch-Schönlein purpura is a systemic disease with frequent renal involvement, characterized by IgA mesangial deposits. Streptococcal infection can induce an abnormal IgA immune response like Henoch-Schönlein purpura, quite similar to typical acute post-infectious glomerulonephritis. Indeed, hypocomplementemia that is typical of acute glomerulonephritis has also been described in ...

Testicular or scrotal involvement has been reported in children with Henoch-Schonlein purpura and must be distinguished from testicular torsion. We report a case of a 5 year old boy diagnosed with Henoch-Schönl...
